There is still hope for new anime fans

Castle of CagliostroCurrently listening to: “Daizenshuu EX The Podcast - Episode #0086″

My hope in new-era anime fans has been restored. I recently gave a friend of mine my copy of the new Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (featured on the top-left)  DVD and he said he liked the movie a lot. Of course this is to be expected since it’s a Hayao Miyazaki movie and he always makes movies that are enjoyable by almost everyone. But still, this really renewed my hopes with new anime fans, since most of them would look at the cover of a movie like this and would go “Eww, I’m not going to watch this! It looks old!”. So I’m really glad my friend took the right direction with this and watched the movie even though it looked dated. I congratulate him for taking one more awesome step in the road to being an anime fan. And for all you people out there who still haven’t seen Castle of Cagliostro…go out and watch it now!

The Atlantic Shelf

CIMG1781 - New shelf pic 1 (thumbnail)Current Song: “Pal Norte (ft. Orishas)” by Calle 13

So just like I said, right after work, I went out and bought that Atlantic DVD Shelf at Best Buy. I have to say that I still really hate Best Buy. The people working there, for the most part, are retarded and don’t know their own store. To give you an example, the guy I got to help me find the shelf I wanted to buy had to go check the back of the store twice to see if he could find the shelf (this was after he took forever looking it up in the computer, mind you) and he still had no luck. After he went for a third time to the storage in the back of the store, I finally decided to look around the store’s anime section to see what was new. I found out that the “Le Chevalier D’Eon” Livre III is out already, so I need to buy that. But anyways, after looking through the store’s anime DVDs, I decided I was fed up with this guy failing at life and went out and tried to find the shelf myself. Turns out that by the time he came back from his third visit to the storage in the back I had already found the shelf and he felt pretty stupid. He then got the shelf box for me and took it to the front so I could pay for it, which was kinda cool.

After getting home and opening the box containing the pieces of the shelf-to-be, I have to say I had my doubts. The pieces were all made of that crappy “compressed wood” that most cheap things are made out of now a days. But after taking about an hour building the thing, I have to say it’s pretty sturdy. It holds way more stuff than I thought it did, that’s for sure. uLTraCarL sure as hell had me worrying with the comments he left in my last post where I talked about getting a shelf because he said “You can probably fill the entire thing with with everything you have in those three pictures as it stands.” and “You’ll be surprised how fast those shelves fill up :O” but it turns out he was probably just exaggerating. As you can tell from the picture up top, I had put all of my manga, some of my video games, my Nintendo GameCube, a bunch of CD-Rs, some video game and anime OSTs, my old phat DS, two of my GBA consoles, my Noir card deck, my RahXephon T-shirt, my Full Metal Panic! T-Shirt, my GBA SP box, my DS box, some of my DS/GBA games, my StarCraft battle chest, my Half-Life Platinum Collection Box and my Family Guy season boxed sets just to make it look like the shelf is full of anime DVDs.

So yeah…crazy stuff. Shelf looks pretty though, I like it. Thanks for the recommendation again CarL. ^_^ More high-rez pictures of the shelf after the jump.

Okay I’m tired of having to keep all of my anime DVDs on the bottom half of my bedroom’s wall unit. I’m going straight to Best Buy after work on Friday to get myself a big ol’ DVD shelf. One of those ones that hold 400+ DVDs. My friend uLTraCarL recommended one made by Atlantic that was just under $80, so I might get one (maybe even two!) of those for my room. I’ll post a picture of the shelf once I buy it (here’s a pic), put it together and put all of my DVDs in it. For now, here’s a pic of my sad sad DVD collection. Look at all those DVDs! They’re all crammed and organized into two rows (ignore the third row all the way in the back, that’s just old VHS tapes and Pokémon guides) per rack…it’s so sad.

Byousoku 5 Centimeter coming to theaters!

5cm per second (from ANN)Current song: “La Cumbia De Los Aburridos” by Calle 13

ADV Films (one of the couple “big” US anime licensing companies) has been announcing a couple of licenses that I am very interested in seeing how they will sell. This one is no different. Byousoku Go Centimeter ~a chain of short stories about their distance~ (AKA 5 Centimers per second) is Makoto Shinkai’s (director of Hoshi no Koe/Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days) latest movie and ADV plans on releasing it to theaters sometime before releasing the DVD on December of this year. If the movie is going to be shown in any theater close to me, I’m definitely going to see it, just to show my support.

According to ANN, ICv2 updated their article saying that the original news source is not them, but is in fact the current issue of Anime Insider, which has five pages of coverage of the movie and its director Shinkai-sensei.

Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX Solid State Society to air on the Sci-Fi channel!

GitS SAC SSSCurrent song: “Kouga Ninpou Chou” by Onmyouza

Yes guys and girls, you read the title right. The sequel movie to Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX 2nd GIG is going to be aired in the US. For those of you who don’t know what Ghost in the Shell is, don’t watch this movie. This movie is a sequel to TWO Ghost in the Shell STAND ALONE COMPLEX TV seasons, so if you watch this, you probably won’t know what the hell is going on.

But for those of you who are cool and have seen the GitS SAC TV seasons, be sure to tune in to the Sci-Fi channel this Monday night at 11PM EST to watch this movie. Also, if you by want to see the movie and by any chance miss it, the DVD will be coming out July 3, 2007 here in the US. BTW, this is not the last anime to be made in the STAND ALONE COMPLEX universe, so expect another movie or TV series soon. :-D

P.S: Just finished watching Basilisk ~Kouga Ninpou Chou~. Not as good an ending as I was hoping, but still pretty good. I recommend it to any one who’s into samurai stories from Japan’s Edo period (AKA anyone who likes Rurouni Kenshin)

ADV Memorial Day Sale

ADV Memorial Day Sale ThumbnailMy package has arrived, my life is complete. Finally, after waiting exactly a week for my package from ADV to arrive through UPS, it’s finally here. If you guys didn’t know, ADV uses any holiday they can find to throw a sale in their website. (This is true, I’ve seen them do “Golden Week” sales) So obviously for Memorial Day here in the US, they had a sale for the weekend of May 25th through May 28th. Of course, I couldn’t pass this opportunity up. I had just gotten payed on May 25th when I received the e-mail from ADV about the Memorial Day sale. So of course I spent over $300 in DVDs (and other assorted items like Noir playing cards and the Slayers Movie 2 OST) . People have already told me I spend too much money in anime DVDs, so this doesn’t help my image. :-P The weird thing is, I got an extra DVD that I didn’t ask for in the box. O_o Apparently it’s some “late-night Japanese show”that ADV is releasing here in the states. It’s called Vermilion Pleasure Night. It’s the DVD with the green cover that you see on the picture to the left. Click on it to see a higher resolution version of it.

I guess I just got that for free because ADV loves me for spending over $300 every time they have a sale and this is the way they show me they appreciate me. Fuck that shit, they sent me Volume 2 of this BS show. What kind of gift is that? I’ve missed two episodes if I start with this volume, I won’t understand what this show is about. Although based on this trailer, I don’t think the show has much of a premise anyways.

But yeah, I’ve rambled on long enough… 18 more high resolution pictures of the items I got from the sale after the jump.
